InMoov head

Engraved line drawing of InMoov head (assembled and moving): the open-source InMoov i2 design we built. Moving the pointer over the drawing, or the Show in colour button, reveals the true-colour model. Its eyes follow the pointer and keyboard focus, and the Say hi button moves its jaw.

Demo · Its eyes follow your pointer. Say hi and it answers.

The drawing’s jaw moves as if saying hi and its eyes look at you. The eyes also follow your pointer and keyboard focus.

Stage 4 of 4: Prototype — Assembled and moving

The 3D model shows the InMoov i2 design we built.

Our build of the open-source InMoov i2 head by Gaël Langevin (CC BY-NC 3.0).

The idea & the why

A humanoid robot head whose eyes turn and jaw opens on servos: the open-source, 3D-printable InMoov i2 design, assembled on our bench.

The problem

Expressive robotic movement depends on mechanics and control working together. Eyes and a jaw are a focused way to explore how small motions create a response people understand.

Who it’s for

A research and learning build in humanoid robotics and animatronics, based on Gaël Langevin’s open-source InMoov design.

The thinking behind it

We printed and assembled the InMoov i2 head, then set its eyes and jaw moving on servos.

The result

An expressive humanoid head, assembled on our bench, with eyes that turn and a jaw that opens.

How it’s built

Every part below is read from the model file. Pick a group to pull its parts out of the assembly.
